Unforgiving Landscapes

Fraoch Unforgiving Landscapes is a post-drone-post-post-metal derivative that musically approximates later Earth, but without any will to live or any romance for the moment. An endless piece of tragic suffering from one's own existence between swelling and declining guitar waves, lazy, close to a fraying funeral dirge, broken pounding percussion and deeply meditatingly reverberating vocals. Favorite track: Gold & Crude.

Jean Homme du mont Thank you Idre ...once again. You are the echoes of my melancholy.

flightoficarus (Metal Trenches) Expansive, emotive doom and drone from some very talented individuals. I feel there is plenty to say about this album, but I'll leave it to someone who knows the genre more than I. In any case, metaltrenches.com approves. Favorite track: Gold & Crude.

about

Top 5 Funeral Doom Albums of 2017 - Metal Injection

"Like Cormac McCarthy's 'The Road' in minimalist metal form, Idre's 'Unforgiving Landscapes' will leave you aching." - Invisible Oranges

quasi shamanic…hypnotic…it is a whole geography that takes shape little by little, carrying images filled with solitude and desolation.” - Music Waves (France)

"...it absolutely thrives in sucking in whoever is listening to it and in creating a strong emotional connection. Astonishing!" - Music & Riots Magazine

"emotive...colossal, atmospheric... an album that is as good as it gets." - Wonderbox Metal

"Like the plains of Oklahoma, the trio's music is sprawling...It all coalesces in a gloomy yet ethereal blend of doom." - Metal Injection

"These solemn songs bewitch you and hold you in a trance like state until the record has concluded, but even then you feel yourself reaching out for more and more bitter darkness." - Cadaver Garden

Following appearances on the "Waves In Compendium" compilation (Pale Noir Records, 2014) and the Italian-based "Where Winter Beats Incessant" compilation (Stramonium Collective, 2015), Idre unveils their sophomore full-length entitled "Unforgiving Landscapes" - a 2-song, 44-minute experiment in sound that presents Idre's most somber and monumental material to date.

The album will be released on May 19, 2017 on vinyl through Wolves And Vibrancy Records (wolvesandvibrancyrecords.tictail.com/products/wvr-releases#_=_) and cassette via-Breathe Plastic Records (breatheplastic.bandcamp.com/album/unforgiving-landscapes).

LPs are limited to 100 on clear vinyl, 200 on black vinyl, each packaged in a printed inner sleeve featuring additional artwork and liner notes exclusive to the LP. Cassettes will come with a digital download code. Listen to the album in full prior to the release date at Invisible Oranges: www.invisibleoranges.com/idre-unforgiving-landscapes-album-premiere/.

Building on their 2014 self-titled debut, the music and lyrical themes explore the immense and spacial elements of doom, the raw, murky, and grim depths of dark rock and goth, the dynamic, ethereal architecture of neo-classical and ambient music, the eerie, mythical vision and twang of American folk and western scores, coupled with the emotional torment and range of tensions that reside within us and our environment, delivered in a context best summarized as Idre. The release moves beyond its predecessor in weight and mass. Rich in single-note riffing and textured guitars, thunderous, airy percussion, and deep, minimalistic bass tones, while despairing vocals artfully reside in the void.

Tracked in analog in 2016 at Breathing Rhythm Studio in Norman, OK, and Dust House in Oklahoma City by Steve Boaz and Atlee Hickerson, "Unforgiving Landscapes" was mixed by Atlee Hickerson, mastered by Chris Harris at Hook Echo Sound in Seattle, WA, and features photography by drummer Nicholas Wojcik. Guest vocal appearances on "Prison Skin" by Lacey Elaine Tackett (of Cherry Death) and harpist M. Bailey Stephenson (AKA Sun Riah).
